One of these was sold to Lord Auckland in 1923 - and is now in the London Zoo [Postcard]

Description

This photograph depicts five wolves (one of which was sold to Lord Auckland in 1923) at Dr. McCleery's lobo wolf park, located within the town limits of Kane, PA. A structure which looks like a doghouse is visible in a neighboring pen. I believe this photo was taken by A. A. Nicolas due to the caption style and handwritten copyright symbol.

There are two versions of this postcard - one with the complete photo and one where most of the background and some of the foreground was cut out and some of the wolves' features were redrawn. The caption on the front of the version of the card with the complete photo reads, "One of these was sold to Lord Auckland in 1923 - and is now in the London Zoo - ©." The caption on the front of the version of the card with the partial photo reads, "McCleery's Lobo and White Arctic Wolves - Kane, Pennsylvania."

This photograph was taken between 1921 (when Dr. McCleery obtained his first wolf) and 1923 (when one of the wolves pictured was sold). The version of this postcard with the complete photo was published between 1929 (when Lord Auckland donated his wolf to the London Zoo) and 1949 (when A. A. Nicolas passed away).
