Dr. McCleery with the Wolves Redcloud and Snowdrift at the Lobo Wolf Park in Kane [Photograph]

Description

This photograph depicts Dr. McCleery with two of his wolves - one of which is standing with its paws on Dr. McCleery's shoulders - at Dr. McCleery's lobo wolf park, located within the town limits of Kane, PA. A birthing den is visible in the distance. This photograph is included in Dr. McCleery's book "The Lone Killer." The two wolves are identified as Redcloud (the wolf standing on its hind legs) and Snowdrift in the Friends' Memorial Public Library's (Kane, PA) copy of "The Lone Killer," which was hand-signed by Dr. McCleery and includes his handwritten identification of some of the wolves in the photographs.

The postcard version of this photograph has most of the background cut out and some trees and features of the wolves drawn in. The caption on the front of the postcard reads, "McCleery's Lobo and White Arctic Wolves - Kane, Pennsylvania." The back of the card reads, "Genuine Photograph - The Garraway Company, Rutherford, N. J."

This photograph was taken between 1921 (when Dr. McCleery obtained his first wolf) and 1929 (when Dr. McCleery moved the wolf park to the Route 6 location).
